Matthew 7:24-29

After the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus’ listeners were astonished by His authority. But how will you respond to His authority? Jesus commands obedience of those who follow Him, and those who obey He calls wise. But, destruction awaits the fool who disobeys.

2 Timothy 2:1-2

In 2 Timothy, Paul provides both an example and an exhortation that are essential for the future of the church of Jesus Christ. The letter charges us to strengthen one another and deposit the gospel in the next generation.

1 John 2:7-17

It’s easy to say Christians should love one another. It’s much harder to actually carry it out. That’s why John tells his readers that the command to love one another is rooted and grounded "in him", in Christ himself. Because it is only in Christ that we are able to actually love as God commands.

Bearing the Family Likeness - 1 John 1:5-2:6

Have you ever been told you act just like your parents or reminded how much you sound like your sibling? We all bear the family resemblance because we're shaped by them. In these verses, John explains that the family of God also has certain distinguishing marks that cause us to resemble our Father and one another.

1 John 1:1-4

The focus of the New Testament is centered on revealing who Jesus Christ is and then reminding readers to walk in what has been revealed about him. And this is the case in First John, as the aged apostle takes his congregation back to foundations of their faith. And in the opening verses, the reader is reminded that Jesus is foundation of our fellowship and joy.

Good Friday: The Committed & Costly Love of Christ

**John tells, "When Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end." From the Last Supper to His last words, we see that Jesus' love was committed and costly.

Luke 24: When seeing is not believing

"Seeing is believing" is a saying first recorded in 1639 by the Englishman Thomas Fuller. Today we often use a similar expression: "I'll believe it when I see it." But as we turn to consider Luke 24 and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we find that seeing doesn't necessarily translate to believing.

Palm Sunday: What were you expecting?

In Luke 19, Jesus taught a parable to address people's kingdom expectations ahead of the Palm Sunday parade. In coming to Jesus, Luke 19 confronts us with the question: What are you expecting? And we find its often in the aftermath of unmet expectations that people turn their back on Jesus.

Faith in Action: Haggai 2:1-9

There are two questions that often to plague us in life: "Is this as good as it gets?" and "Am I alone in this?" In today's passage, we meet the people of God only a few weeks after Haggai 1 and they're already discouraged, and God's message to them is one we also need today: "I am with you."
